On Crete and Aegean the agriculture and craftmenship of clay pottery helped to stimulate the economy through trade as well as the start of sea expeditions. Crete began having trading relationships with Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia and Asia. This ultimately ended up creating what became a self-sustaining and advanced civilization that would lead to the growth Greece. The different villages on the Greek mainland began growing greeces economy by forcing the each other to trade between the different villages and esencially growing the entire islands economy.

The Cyclade Islands were located in the middle between Europe and Asian and Crete. By having this halfway trading point it made the journey much less dangerous.
