This map shows how the land in different parts of Greece are unitized. As you can see from the map the ratios between forest,grazing land and cereal farming are fairly close. The Greek mainland is made up of mostly forest. Where as, the island of Crete is mostly grazing land.

The majority of Greece has an average amount of rainfall. In the northwestern part of Greece that includes Central Greece(1200-1500 mm/yr) and Ipiros(1500-1900 mm/yr) the rainfall drastically increases.
If you compare the land utilization map to the precipitation map you will see the the amount of rainfall directly correlates withe the amount of forest.
