Oil Production: 7,000 barrels per day
Oil Consumption: 284,000 barrels per day
Greece’s oil consumption had a drastic spike in 2007 and has had a massive decline in the last 7 years. The oil consumption has gone from 450,000 barrels per day to 284,000. This is due to the movement of trying to increase their use of renewable resources, which is what many countries are moving towards. This is because it is better for our environment as well as in the long run it will be less expensive. By 2020 Greece is estimated to have 18% of their energy come from renewable resources. This attempt shows that the social development of the country is on the rise and being progressive. Also, Europe is not an oil-producing continent; therefore, they need to think of other ways to produce energy other than purchasing oil from other countries.
